The kitchen is usually the hub of all activities in the home, especially if it is a kitchen cum room, getting the appropriate kitchen work tables can make a big difference. Kitchen work tables may not only be used for cutting, chopping and other cooking processes. They can also serve as a good place for children to do their homework while chatting with their parents as well as an efficient place for a person cooking to perform other projects simultaneously.

No matter the size of your kitchen, or where it is you may be tempted with using country kitchen décor. This is fairly easy to do as long as your home isn’t particularly modern by adding accessories around your kitchen. You can use accessories to tie the whole theme together.
Many people get confused when they consider using rural kitchen decoration, they assume that anything that’s hand made can be used in a country side kitchen. It is true that a number of items are suitable for use in such a kitchen, however not everything hand made is suitable.
You should consider adding your own photos to the walls of your home, particularly photos of nature. You could also add old medal signs which tie in with the country theme, perhaps using old fashioned milk casks. You could even use these milk containers as interesting planters.
If you like animals then you could equally add in some tasteful chicken and rooster models into your kitchen. These can help to tie everything nicely together.
Coordinated Accent Pieces Add To The Effect
It is possible to find towels and rugs to match this theme, however unless you want to buy lots of the same towel make your family aware that they’re just for show. Many of these highly patterned towels are not very durable when washed. Finding accessories that match these things may seem like a minor thing, however it really can tie your whole kitchen design together.
If you want an authentic country design for your kitchen then you will probably have your eye on a huge wooden table. If this is out of your reach then there’s no need to panic. It’s possible to keep your existing table and cover it up with a nice table cloth. Adding seat cushions to chairs can not only make them more comfortable, but add authenticity to your design. For the most convincing design have chairs with spindles at the back which have the seat cushions attached to them.
The most noticeable feature in your kitchen will be your curtains. It is important to make sure the fabric you use for the curtains matches or at least ties in with the rest of your features. In particular you should make sure that the curtains do not clash with the wall color.
Just to show it’s the little touches that make the whole difference, you can add a vase of fresh country flowers. During the winter a simple bowel of fruit and veg will work wonders!

If you love the country cottage style, then you will want to include it into your home’s decor. Luckily, since it is rather eclectic, it incorporates nicely into almost any style. Because of its versatility and ease of use, French country cottage furniture is becoming popular. Not only is the style versatile, but it is a great style for budget decorating as well.
Classic Style
There are many pieces of furniture that fit the French country cottage style of furniture. A classic example would be a four poster bed or an ottoman that doubles as storage. A built in desk and shelf or built-in bookcases also evoke the French country cottage aesthetic. Sometimes, simply adding an old rocking chair to a space is enough to add this flavor to a room. Vintage furniture lends itself nicely to this look as well, like ladder back chairs.
Paint and Fabric
The French country cottage style usually indicates painted furniture, so it is a great way to reuse old furniture. By adding a fresh coat of paint, it is easy to bring an old piece of furniture back to life. If you are going for a shabby chic look, a little extra wear and tear on the furniture fits right in to the style. As you are selecting fabrics for your furniture look at floral, checks and plaids as popular choices. You can update cushions on existing furniture pieces, or you may choose to add a slipcover to an entire chair or sofa to completely change its look. French country cottage is a fun style to design, because your can mix and match fabrics to add quaintness to your space. Add comfortable and colorful quilts, lap blankets and pillows to make the space cozy and comfortable. With a few bright blue or red splashes, you can add and overall vibrancy to the room and pull together all of your design elements.
Favorite Furniture Pieces
Even though the look of French country cottage furniture is eclectic, you can add a lot of charm to any room simply by incorporating a few elements. For example, you can make a fantastic coffee table from an old storage trunk. Not only is it a quaint addition to your room, but it offers a huge amount of storage. Combining slightly mismatched ladder back chairs for your dining table creates the perfect, French country cottage vibe for a room. You can give these chairs a cohesive look by painting them the same color, or simply by adding seat cushions that match. Milk stools make great design elements in this room, and can be used as a footstool or a plant stand. You can also add a touch of wicker to the room for a little touch of charm. A wicker rocking chair or even a little, wicker love seat tucked under a window helps enhance a cottage feel, and if you do not want to add wicker furniture, you may prefer a wicker magazine rack or simply a basket.

When simple wooden pews were the standard seating in most churches, comfort was not a high priority. However, as we have learned more about ergonomics and how poor seating can actually lead to discomfort, churches have begun to invest in seating that will provide quality support and comfort to their parishioners. With this new focus on comfort, it is important to be aware of some of the ergonomic features which can affect a chair‘s comfort.
Lumbar Support
The human spine is not really a straight line, but curved. The lower part of the spine is known as the lumbar region, and tends to curve outward slightly. Many chairs are designed with a flat backrest, which causes the lumbar to flatten while seated. When purchasing new seating for your church, look for chairs with a slightly contoured backrest and lumbar support. This will help your congregation focus on the service rather than on their aching backs!
Waterfall Seat
Another important factor in comfort is the shape of the seat itself. If the seat remains flat at the very front edge, or curves down only slightly, the edge can put pressure on the back of the knees. A waterfall seat has a thick, rounded edge extending beyond the frame, reducing pressure and improving circulation in the legs.
Foam Density
One of the most obvious contributing factors toward the overall comfort of a chair is its cushion. When sampling church chairs, look for a dual-density foam cushion that is both soft and dense. Inquire about the exact density of the foam padding. A higher number indicates a denser cushion, which will provide a higher level of support and comfort for a longer period of time. Many church chair manufacturers will have the density measurements on their websites. If not, be sure to inquire for this information.
A familiarity with ergonomic terms and measurements are helpful for narrowing down your seating choices, but don’t forget the most important test – actually sitting in the chairs. Ask for samples of church chairs and have several members of your congregation sit in them for at least fifteen minutes at a time and give their opinion. After all, these are the people who will be sitting in these new chairs for years to come.

Kitchen remodeling can be done if you cannot stand your current one, but you are on a limited budget. You may not get your dream room or accomplish a total home improvement or decorating project, but you can renew your room. In fact, you can save money when you redecorate your kitchen.
The most expensive aspect of any kitchen project are the cabinets. You can update your cabinets inexpensively by painting over dated finishes.
You will need to sand your cabinets down, add a primer so the paint can adhere to the wood. Blocker primers are great for covering up stains, but make sure you pick the right paint for your cabinetry. You can save thousands, spending just hundreds and get new looking cabinets.
Alternatively, you may be able to afford refacing, which may need three or more thousand, but ultimately is still cheaper than replacing your cabinets. This way you put on new doors, drawer fronts, refacing material and hardware.
Your appliances will cost a fortune to replace, but at little cost, they can be refinished. Dishwasher, refrigerator and oven panels are replaceable, giving you a fresh look without the high costs.
Flooring costs are greatly reduced when you install them yourself. In the end you save a fortune doing anything yourself because hiring someone else means paying for labor. In fact, square tiles made of vinyl are the easiest to install, and the least costly of all the floor materials. Moreover, they are exceptionally easy to maintain and clean.
If you want a more dramatic affect for your kitchen, try the cheapest decorating project and the most fun – painting. You can create a fresh and interesting look by upgrading old kitchen walls with dramatic or subtle colour just by painting. You can create a larger kitchen with brush strokes.
Lighting is another aspect that can be easily changed and is very inexpensive. You can find a unique or classy chandelier to put over your kitchen table, just by simple replacing the lighting fixture you currently have. However, if you wish to add further lighting or want some accent lights then you will have to hire an electrician to do this.
There are so many different accents that can change the look of your kitchen; one’s that do not cost too much money. They include: new curtains (bought or sewn yourself); decorative frames holding interesting and unique pictures; adding a stenciled border to your kitchen‘s wall; a flower-filled pitcher; a kitchen floor throw rug; new cushions on your kitchen chairs (bought or sewn yourself); and table coverings.

Summer is so fleeting in some parts of the country that you want to take advantage of every day when the temperature soars and it doesn’t pour. Unfortunately, it often takes half the summer just to get your backyard retreat, patio or deck back into shape. There’s furniture to clean, wood to treat, leaves to spray away and new plants to plant. By the time you’re through, your aching back is ready for a break. And that’s when Adirondack Chairs really shine.
First, they are one of the great treats for a weary back. The design of Adirondack Chairs allows your posterior to slip all the way back into the seat, providing support to your spine and back muscles. Since the back of the chair rises up above your shoulders, your entire back is supported. Try that in an ordinary lawn chair.
Of course, your tired arms need support too. As anyone who has purchased Adirondack Chairs before knows, the wide arms provide your arms with the perfect support as well. The result: a relaxing place to watch the world pass by that any chiropractor would curse.
While it’s tough to get a doctor to prescribe Adirondack Chairs for your home, you can take comfort in the fact that your body will feel much better sitting in Adirondack Chairs than those cheap resin chairs sold in discount houses. That’s not to say these aren’t nice for the occasional soiree in your backyard. But they’re hardly the type of solid support most people with back problems need.
Another benefit of Adirondack Chairs. They require less maintenance. With Adirondack Chairs on your patio, deck or garden retreat, you don’t have to waste valuable sun time cleaning the chairs every season. When you first purchase your chairs, simply coat them with an all weather stain, or paint them, and you’re done. A quick cleaning at the beginning of the season and they should be good to go.
During the off season, you can leave Adirondack Chairs out in the elements. Chairs made of Northern White Cedar and Red Cedar will weather naturally, turning a silver and grayish silver respectively as the years pass by. Teak, on the other hand, will never crack or fade. It is an extremely durable wood that can take whatever Mother Nature can throw at it. Just be sure your oil them with a good teak oil on occasion and you’re set for life. A helpful hint: Purchase the teak oil from a marine supply store. It’s made specifically to seal teak from rain, wind, snow and sleet. If it works on the teak use in a boat you can bet it will work well on the teak on your Adirondack Chairs.
While you’re shopping for Adirondack Chairs, you may want to consider some important accessories as well – an ottoman for your tired feet and a matching table to put your tall glass of iced drink. After all, you need to be comfortable now that you won’t spend half the summer getting ready for the warm weather.

Tags: Cushion, History
In American phraseology, the words ‘cushion‘ and ‘pillow’ are practically synonymous, but in the remainder of the English speaking world, a pillow is used on a bed for supporting the head and a cushion is used on elsewhere for supporting other parts of the body. A pillow is normally much larger than a cushion these days.
The cushion and pillow were most likely first used by well-off Asian men to lounge on. They would probably be referred to as throw cushions nowadays. However, we are going back so far in history that dyes and fabrics were very expensive, so pillows and cushions were just for the wealthy and the patterns were so intricate that they became pieces of art in themselves.
Needlework became a skilled profession as did weaving. Cushions were substantial sacks or cases filled with feathers, hair, wool, straw or something equivalent. Nowadays they are more likely to be filled with man-made fibres such as polyester. Down is the most expensive filling particularly down from the eider duck.
Due to international trade, the idea of the cushion started moving westward and had arrived in Egypt by the time of the Pharaohs. Cushions have been found in ancient Egyptian tombs. By the Middle Ages, cushions were to be seen in all the royal palaces of Europe. Cushions were still regarded as representing wealth.
The cushions of the royal palaces were large enough to sit in, a bit like modern beanie bags, and even started replacing traditional chairs. In those days, cushions were very substantial sacks manufactured of leather, many of which had needlework designs on them.
Cushions were also used in churches for the wealthy to kneel on when saying their prayers. These special but small cushions were known as carreaux because they were square (from the French).
Nowadays cushions are everyday items because they are much cheaper. Most cushions in the West are 17 inches by 17 inches and the reason for this is the traditional size of a roll or bolt of fabric. A roll of fabric is traditionally 54 inches wide, so it could be cut into three pieces of 18 inches, allowing for seams, this permits the manufacturer to make a 17 inch cushion.
Japanese cushions were much larger and still are, but they have a different role. In the West they are used for support, whereas in the East they are used for sitting on on the floor. In Japanese they are called ‘zabuton’ and measure 20-30 inches square by a few of inches thick, which is less than a quarter of the thickness of traditional Western cushions.
Zen meditators will often sit on another special cushion called a zafu or meditation cushion, which is placed on top of the zabuton. A zafu can be round or square but is small, frequently only 8-10 inches in diameter and 4-8 inches in thickness.
Zabuton are used in all aspects of Japanese life especially those aspects that have religious overtones or traditions such as sumo. Spectators of the sport will sit on zabuton whilst watching the bouts. If there is a questionable move or a dispute, spectators frequently throw their zabuton into the ring in revulsion.

Tags: Chairs, Kitchen
Kitchen chairs typically take a beating what with a constant round of friends and family, including exuberant children and people whose weight is only exceeded by their love of your good cooking. This means that chairs in the kitchen may well start to suffer from broken or wobbly legs, or may start to gouge grooves into a floor that is not built out of some very hard material.
Repair or replacement are two options that are always available, and prevention, when you can do it in time, is a third one. If legs on kitchen chairs come loose or get cracked, then try the following before rushing out to buy a whole new chair. If the joint is loose, first break the joint apart before applying wood glue on the corresponding surfaces and putting the leg back in position. Reinforce the joint by then driving in a wood screw of a length of 1inch. By sinking the head of the screw into the wood you can then put wood putty over the head of the screw and color the putty to the appropriate shade corresponding to the chair.
For a cracked or broken leg, remove the damaged leg from the chair in question and take it to your local D. I. Y. store to see if you can get a matching replacement. If this is the case, then use the appropriate wood stain or varnish to match the color of the new leg to the rest of the chair. Glue the leg in place against the wood joints of the chair itself, using wood screws to hold the different pieces together. Drive the screws into the wood far enough so that you can then apply a little wood putty to hide the head of the screw. Finish off by using some more of the same wood stain or varnish to make the wood putty blend in with the rest of the chair.
For the chairs that are making tracks in your floor, or driving your neighbors up the wall if you live in an apartment, then you can try either sticking self-adhesive felt pads to the bottom of each leg where it meets the floor, or other methods such as tennis balls. The goal is to soften the impact of the chair being moved over the floor and to muffle the noise and vibration that this can cause. You can also cover the bottom of the legs of kitchen chairs with pincushions.
When the time comes to buying new kitchen chairs, you’ll be able to take the noise and vibration factor into account. Many kitchen chairs are sold with a rubber tipped feet for this very reason. It’s almost a given that kitchen floors will be made out of some hard material, as it is a rare thing to have any form of carpeting in the kitchen for obvious reasons. Chairs with rubber tipped feet will therefore be that much more quiet, stable and non-slip, which are also important, factors in such an environment.
